$169,000,000 and It's Only Getting Higher

Dating all the way back to 2015, Marvel had confirmed the title of Avengers: Endgame, and now it is time for that movie to finally come out. https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a25437248/avengers-endgame-title-age-of-ultron/ Marvel had given itself a four year window for advertisement and possible plot giveaways in the trailers. People have overanalyzed every possible meaning and message in those trailers in an attempt to predict what will happen.

Fans from the very beginning with Marvel's The Avengers in 2012 are in disbelief that it was all coming to an end. The truth has finally come out, so the question of "How does it all end?" will be answered.

All the excitement over one 3 hour and 1 minute movie is the reason for why this single movie has made been ranked 1st in Fandango's biggest pre-sale films (https://bgr.com/2019/04/25/avengers-endgame-presale-numbers-fandango-showtimes/), why the movie has made $165,000,000 in profits as of April 25, 2019 (https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Avengers-Endgame-(2019)#tab=summary), and why people have tried to sell movie tickets for outrageous prices on Ebay (https://www.fatherly.com/news/vengers-endgame-tickets-ebay-resale/). After a month of waiting four years for the pre-sale tickets to open up one month before the showings, it makes sense why people would be storming the internet for tickets. In some theaters, it has gone to the extent of showing only this film every 30 minutes for 24 hours.

Despite all the crazy numbers and profits from this movie, my question is about what this will do for MCU, Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the title, it is said to be the end of all Avengers movies, but true fans know that this is not the end. It doesn't matter what the title says because Marvel has done its movies in phases. Many have argued that Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are part of the next phase: Phase 4. Having this continuation of phases only means that MCU will continue to make movie. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/mcu-timeline-recap-plot-summary-movie-marvel-cinematic-universe-film-avengers-endgame-infinity-saga-a8879371.html

It's interesting to me of how the fans are fully into this experience where the excitement around one movie brings in the greatest profits in film history, but then in one year, another film does the same thing to top that record. Dedication is dedication, but how long can Marvel keep this up for? Is their profits sustainable? Some even question if Endgame can break the Infinity Wars record, but only after this first weekend of showings will the record come out.

  1. Hi, it's really Jack Galvez because his blog comments don't work. "This is a phenomenal write up in my opinion. I really like the connections to the past that you mention because it really sums up how big this movie and marketing campaign is. What you wrote makes total sense because it is essentially the summary of all of the Marvel movies that have come before it. I too am one of the people who put my money into this franchise, and if I have one question about it, what will happen next for Marvel, will they ever make this much again?"

  2. I liked the questions you posed at the end because I too have wondered if Marvel will be able to keep up the good reputation they have created for themselves over the years. They seem to be consistently releasing critically-acclaimed films that are accompanied by huge marketing campaigns and bring in millions of dollars. I noticed several billboards and YouTube/social media ads for Avengers: Endgame in the weeks leading up to its release. While this film may be a commercial and critical success, I wonder if Marvel will be able to stay consistent in the coming phase.
